Norfolk Southern Railway Chooses the Flagship
Rail*AMS System
Apollo, PA, July 30, 2004
Lasse V. Syversen, President of Bloksberg Inc
Flagship a company based in Maryland and with a development and
operations center in Apollo, PA, announced today that Norfolk
Southern Railway has signed an agreement to use their Flagship
RAIL*AMS Service. RAIL*AMS enables businesses to exchange business
data electronically with both the US Customs and Canadian Customs
Automated Manifest Systems for the purpose of clearing cargo moving
between the US and Canada by Rail.
Norfolk Southern Railway, based in Norfolk,
VA is one of the nation's premier transportation companies. Its
Norfolk Southern Railway subsidiary operates 21,500 route miles
in 22 states, the District of Columbia and Ontario, serving every
major container port in the eastern United States and providing
superior connections to western rail carriers. NS operates the
most extensive intermodal network in the East and is the nation's
largest rail carrier of automotive parts and finished vehicles.
Norfolk Southern Railway continues to add efficiency
to its operations by using Flagship’s RAIL*AMS system. Wes
B. Alexander, Director Agency Opns, in discussing Norfolk Southern’s
decision to use RAIL*AMS stated that he expects RAIL*AMS to provide
an efficient, predictable, and easy to use way for Norfolk Southern
to file data to US Customs and Border Protection thus enhancing
the free flow of cargo across the border.
RAIL*AMS is based on proven technology backed
by experienced professionals with a long history of providing
fast, efficient, reliable software to the transportation industry.
Using RAIL*AMS will eliminate the costs associated with the manual
preparation and submission of paper manifests, and result in faster
clearance minimizing expensive delays at the border. RAIL*AMS
is designed to integrate easily with the rail carriers existing
documentation systems eliminating the need to re-key data for
submission to Customs and is available on Flagship’s Virtual
Host Service, or as licensed product for operation on the carrier’s
servers.
In making the announcement, Mr. Syversen noted
that Norfolk Southern has demonstrated forward thinking in their
efforts to reduce paper based manifest submissions and further
improve the speed of cargo clearance at the border.
